Germany's trade surplus with the USA decreased by 15% in the first seven months of the year, reaching 34.6 billion euros, due to new customs duties.

In July 2023, Germany reported its lowest trade surplus with the USA since 2021, with a 15% decrease compared to the previous year, reaching 34.6 billion euros. Although the United States remains Germany's main trading partner, the introduction of 15% tariffs on most imports from the EU is affecting trade. German exports to the USA decreased by 5.3%, while imports increased by 2.2%. This marks a significant change in a trade relationship that has been consistently favorable to Germany for over three decades.
