In response to Donald Trump's national security strategy, which warns of a possible 'civilizational disappearance' of Europe and criticizes European values, Germany has stated that it does not need 'advice from outside'. Johann Wadephul, the German Foreign Minister, stated that issues related to freedom of expression and the organization of society cannot be discussed by Washington.

Although he acknowledged the importance of the United States as an ally within NATO, Wadephul emphasized that the alliance focuses on defense and security. The White House document promotes nationalism and measures against migration, predicting an 'unrecognizable' Europe in the near future. Germany reaffirms its commitment to press freedom, another contentious issue with the U.S.
