Germany has resumed processing asylum applications for Syrians and intends to deport young labor migrants to Syria, with the agreement of the government in Damascus. Direct deportations have not taken place since 2012 due to the civil war. The center-right coalition of Chancellor Friedrich Merz promises a stricter policy regarding migration, aiming to reject asylum seekers, especially those with criminal records.
