Germany will open a new tactical headquarters for its armed forces as NATO expands in the Baltic Sea region.

The headquarters, located in the port of Rostock, will be responsible for planning maritime operations and maneuvers, as well as directing NATO naval forces deployed to the region. The expanded military presence comes amid fears of possible Russian aggression. The Baltic Sea is a strategic route for NATO.
