Units of the German armed forces in Poland were activated on Friday after detecting Russian MiG-31 fighter jets operating in western Ukraine, according to information published by the newspaper 'Bild'. This presence generated a swift reaction from the Polish air defense and the German military operating the Patriot systems on Polish territory. The Polish army, together with NATO forces stationed in the area, put the Patriot air defense systems on alert, having the capability to immediately launch missiles to shoot down enemy flying objects. Germany has two operational Patriot systems at the airfield in Rzeszów, located in southeastern Poland, near the border with Ukraine.
