The development ministers from Germany and Norway, Reem Alabali Radovan and Åsmund Aukrust, were forced to turn back from their way to Beirut due to the risks of Israeli attacks, according to official announcements. The two ministers, aboard a German military plane, landed in Cyprus, and their trip was canceled for military reasons and due to a rapidly deteriorating situation in Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the intensification of attacks on "terrorist targets" near Beirut, in the context of the conflict with Hezbollah. Since the beginning of March, over 3,000 people have been killed in the violence in the region.
The ministers intended to meet with the Lebanese president and members of civil society to express solidarity with the affected population. Alabali Radovan called for de-escalation of the conflict and negotiations for a ceasefire, while Iran emphasized that any agreement with the United States depends on a ceasefire in Lebanon.
