The White House has confirmed that General Keith Kellogg, President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, will resign in January. This departure comes at a critical moment for Ukraine, which is facing increasingly intense Russian attacks and an internal corruption crisis. Kellogg explained that January is a natural time for the conclusion of his term, considering that his position requires Senate approval after 360 days. Although it is unclear who will replace him, Kellogg has been a strong supporter of Ukraine, being involved in important negotiations and having a close relationship with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Despite his contributions, Kellogg's role has sometimes been marginalized in favor of Moscow's preferred negotiator, Steve Witkoff. His departure coincides with discussions about a new peace plan that could include territorial concessions from Ukraine. This situation underscores Ukraine's vulnerabilities amid the intensification of Russian attacks, leaving the country without a key supporter in Washington.
