The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) announced on Wednesday that it has accused Pavel Durov, the founder of the messaging app Telegram, of facilitating terrorist activities of Ukraine, issuing an international arrest warrant in his name.
FSB claims that Telegram has not removed content used by Ukrainian special services and terrorist organizations to coordinate acts of sabotage, terrorism, and cyber fraud on the territory of Russia.
As of the time of publication, Durov and Telegram have not commented on the accusations.
Founded in 2013, Telegram has over 1 billion users and is used by both sides in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Russia has attempted to restrict the use of Telegram, promoting its own messaging service, MAX.
French authorities are investigating Durov for failing to combat criminal activities on the platform, accusations that he denies.
