The retrocession of the Sergeant Adij Kossei base in N'Djamena definitively ends the French presence in Chad, in accordance with the wishes of the Chadian authorities. Chad was France's last anchor in Africa's Sahel region, where the French army had more than 5,000 soldiers as part of the anti-jihadist operation Barkhane. Four other former French colonies have also called for the withdrawal of French troops.
