French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot says France's recognition of Palestine is not a reward for Hamas, but proof that the Islamist group is wrong to reject the two-state solution. President Emmanuel Macron announced that the recognition will take place at the UN General Assembly in September. The decision has been criticized by Israel, which sees it as a reward for terrorism in the context of the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, which resulted in numerous casualties.
