In an interview for the France Info channel, Jean-Noel Barrot, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized France's opposition to "all attacks on civilian infrastructure" in the Middle East, similar to its stance on Russia's actions in Ukraine. Barrot warned that a war in Iran could lead to an increase in fuel prices and reprisals from the Iranian regime, worsening an already concerning situation.

He highlighted the risks to the civilian population and the global economy, stressing the need to avoid a regional conflagration. Barrot reiterated that the solution to the conflict requires "major concessions" from Iran and a radical change in its position.

He also warned the United States that a ground military operation in Iran could lead to dangerous escalation, recalling experiences from Iraq and Afghanistan. France supports discussions between the US and Iran through regional mediators, considering them preferable to escalation.

Barrot mentioned the initiative of France and the United Kingdom to organize escorts for ships in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that efforts are underway to bring together interested countries to restore traffic and reduce pressure on hydrocarbon prices. This position comes in the context of threats from American President Donald Trump to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran, setting a deadline for an agreement.
