France is under an extreme heatwave, with 35 departments placed under red alert, affecting 26 million citizens. I
The meteorological institute Météo-France has warned that temperatures could reach 41 °C, similar to the heatwaves of 2019 and 2003. In the context of Music Festivals, the government has banned the consumption of alcohol in affected areas, activating an interministerial crisis cell. Although some festivities will continue, local authorities have imposed precautionary measures, such as adjusting the schedule to cooler hours.
The heatwave, linked to climate change, has led to the closure of schools in certain areas and the deterioration of air quality.
Estimates show that the heatwave caused approximately 5,700 deaths in France in 2025, mostly among the elderly.
