France is preparing a significant change to its nuclear doctrine, according to proposals by President Emmanuel Macron, aimed at extending nuclear protection for European allies. This initiative aims to deter Vladimir Putin and reduce Europe's dependence on the United States. Paris and London will coordinate their nuclear forces more closely, and countries like Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands are joining the plan.

Macron stated that to be free, Europeans must be feared and strong, abandoning a 65-year doctrine to offer French nuclear weapons as protection for Europe against Russia. France will modernize its nuclear arsenal and maintain the strategic ambiguity of its capabilities, while collaborating with the United Kingdom to ensure effective nuclear deterrence.

This change comes in the context of Russian threats and the deployment of nuclear weapons near European borders.
