Yoon faces serious charges, including obstructing the exercise of the rights of others by abusing his authority and ordering the erasure of records. On trial for insurrection, which can carry the death penalty or life imprisonment, he has denied any wrongdoing. Yoon has been held at the Seoul Detention Center since early July, and a court recently rejected his request for release.
