Former Bolivian President Luis Arce was arrested on Wednesday in La Paz, following an investigation opened by the prosecutor's office regarding acts of corruption during his time as Minister of Economy in Evo Morales' government (2006-2019). Arce, 62 years old, left power on November 8, ending nearly two decades of socialist rule. The prosecutor's office accused him of 'failure to fulfill public duties' and 'anti-economic conduct,' while Vice President Edmand Lara praised the anti-corruption agents for the arrest. The accusations are based on transfers of public funds to personal accounts of peasant leaders, including former deputy Lidia Patty, who was recently arrested and stated that Arce approved these transfers. Lara stated that all those who have stolen from the country will pay for their actions.
