On Friday evening, flights from Berlin-Brandenburg airport were suspended for nearly two hours, between 8:08 PM and 9:58 PM, due to the presence of a drone. The police were alerted and sent a helicopter and a patrol car, which spotted the device but failed to identify the operator. This situation reflects a growing threat posed by drones, with multiple incidents reported in Germany, including near military bases and critical infrastructure. Chancellor Friedrich Merz suggested that these actions could be orchestrated by Russia, in the context of tensions in Ukraine. The German government is reviewing air security legislation to allow the military to shoot down drones, and at the EU level, discussions are underway about an "anti-drone shield" by 2027.
