Fire on a ferry in Indonesia, off the coast of Madura Island: Five people have died and 41 are missing.

A tragic incident occurred off the coast of the Indonesian island of Madura, where the ferry Mutiara Sentosa 2 caught fire, resulting in the death of five people and leaving 41 passengers missing.

The ferry was carrying 271 passengers and crew members and was traveling from Surabaya, East Java province, to the city of Makassar in South Sulawesi at the time the fire broke out. Rescue authorities, including the national agency Basarnas, immediately began the search operation, managing to find 225 people.

The fire broke out between 06:00 and 07:00 local time, and the cause remains unknown. The ferry operator, PT Atosim Lampung Pelayaran, reported the incident to the search and rescue office in Surabaya, but contact with the vessel was subsequently lost. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of this tragic incident.
