The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, stated that his country will not authorize the presence of nuclear weapons on national territory during peacetime, following the announcement of a legislative reform plan that could allow their introduction under certain conditions.

The Minister of Defense, Antti Hakkanen, suggested that the legislative changes could facilitate the transport and storage of nuclear weapons related to Finland's military defense. The Kremlin's reaction was swift, accusing Finland of being a threat. Stubb clarified that there is no intention to bring nuclear weapons to Finland, emphasizing the country's commitment to NATO's nuclear deterrence principles. This reform comes in the context of Finland's accession to NATO in April 2023, abandoning its military non-alignment policy.
