Fidji Simo, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley and former director at Facebook, announced that she will reduce her activity at OpenAI, becoming a part-time advisor, due to a chronic illness that has worsened.

Diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in 2019, Simo went on medical leave three months later, realizing that the recovery process would be more complicated than she had anticipated. Although she was encouraged to prioritize her health, Simo acknowledged that she had postponed this decision due to her desire to continue working.

At OpenAI, she led the applications division, including the development of ChatGPT, and was responsible for diversifying the company's revenue sources. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, expressed sadness and gratitude for her contributions.

Simo emphasized the importance of using artificial intelligence in medicine, stating that curing diseases should be a priority.
