Federal Judge Joseph Laplante has ruled that the Trump administration cannot restrict the citizenship of US-born children, following a class-action lawsuit filed by immigrant rights advocates. The ruling comes after a Supreme Court decision that limited judges' ability to block national policies. Laplante stayed the decision for seven days to allow the administration's appeal. Trump's order could affect more than 150,000 newborns annually, and a White House spokesman criticized the judge's decision as an illegal attempt to circumvent the law.
