The FBI has issued a warning about the cybersecurity risks associated with popular applications developed in China, highlighting that they may compromise user data in the U.S. and beyond. The warning does not mention specific applications but focuses on those that have digital infrastructure in China, subject to local laws that allow the Chinese government to access user data. The FBI emphasizes that applications that allow users to invite friends may store sensitive information, such as email addresses and phone numbers. The agency also recommends using local software to avoid sharing data with external servers, especially those in China. The FBI warns that some applications may contain malware that exploits vulnerabilities to obtain information beyond what users have authorized. Users are advised to download applications only from official sources and to avoid APK files or external downloads.
