On Wednesday, a devastating landslide occurred at the Rubaya mines, controlled by M23 rebels, in the North Kivu province of Congo. The governor's spokesperson, Lumumba Kambere Muyisa, stated that the torrential rains were the main cause of the collapse. So far, it is estimated that over 200 people have died, and some of them are still trapped in the mud and have not been recovered.

Additionally, several people were injured and were transported to medical facilities in the town of Rubaya. As a result of the tragedy, the provincial governor temporarily suspended artisanal mining in the area and ordered the relocation of residents living near the mine. Rubaya is located in a mineral-rich area but has been affected by violence and armed conflicts for decades.
