In the face of an extreme heat wave, with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in some areas, 15 of Iran's 31 provinces have suspended government activities, schools and banks. Electricity demand has increased significantly, but production is insufficient, causing power outages. Iran is facing severe drought and water reservoirs are almost empty, affecting drinking water supplies and agriculture. Rainfall has fallen by 41% compared with last year.
