The drone, likely launched from Lebanon, hit the British base RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, and Western officials confirmed that it was not launched from Iran.

The drone flew for over an hour, being detected with difficulty due to its small size.

The incident occurred shortly after Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that American forces will be able to use British bases to bomb Iran.

The RAF Akrotiri base hosts over 800 military personnel and their families, being constantly exposed to threats from Russian espionage and electronic attacks. The presence of U-2 aircraft at this base is well known, having a role in espionage missions since the 1970s.
