An operation coordinated by Europol has led to the seizure of almost one million counterfeit banknotes in 18 countries, including 600,000 dollars in Romania.

Between October 2024 and March 2025, Europol conducted a major investigation in 18 countries, identifying money counterfeiting networks, mostly in Asia, South America and the Middle East. Romanian police recovered 600,000 counterfeit dollars in a raid. Almost one million counterfeit notes and coins were seized with an estimated value of €66 million. The operation generated 102 new investigations and was supported by OLAF, highlighting effective international cooperation.
