The European Commission expressed on Monday 'deep concern' regarding the information from the Washington Post, which suggests that Hungary may have disclosed sensitive information to Moscow. The article claims that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto frequently contacted his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, to keep him informed about discussions during EU officials' meetings.

These accusations have generated outrage in Brussels, especially after Hungary blocked a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine. The Commission has requested clarifications from the Hungarian government, and Berlin has described the information as 'very serious'. Szijjarto denied the accusations, calling them 'fake news', while Prime Minister Viktor Orban condemned a 'serious attack' against Hungary. Relations between the EU and Budapest are already strained, and European leaders are expressing their exasperation at Orban's unilateral stance.
