Bulgaria could become the eurozone's 21st member in 2027, after the Eurogroup confirmed it meets the necessary conditions.

Eurozone finance ministers have recommended that Bulgaria adopt the euro from January 1, 2026, given favorable assessments by the ECB and the EC. The exchange rate for the leva will be set soon and Bulgaria will have six months for the technical transition. Although it had inflation of 2.8%, its budget deficit and public debt are below EU limits. Bulgaria's accession will leave six EU member states outside the eurozone with no immediate plans to adopt.
