Michael McGrath, the European Commissioner for Justice, stated that Donald Trump's efforts to secure peace in Ukraine must not lead to Russia being exempted from accountability for the war crimes committed. In an interview, McGrath emphasized that the European Union will insist that Russia be held accountable for its crimes, warning that amnesty for these actions could lead to new aggressions. His comments come in the context of European concerns regarding the initial plans of the U.S., which included amnesty for Russian actions. McGrath highlighted that millions of lives have been affected and that the evidence of Russian crime is extensive. The EU is also working on establishing a special tribunal to judge Russian leaders. Despite these efforts, Trump has shown little interest in prosecuting Putin, instead promoting the idea of reintegrating Russia into the global economy. His team's peace plan proposes lifting sanctions, which has been rejected by European leaders. However, some countries, such as Hungary, have blocked sanctions, highlighting divisions within the EU.
