The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union is "prepared for all scenarios" after American President Donald Trump threatened a 25% tariff on cars imported from the EU. During a press conference in Yerevan, von der Leyen emphasized the importance of respecting the trade agreement concluded in July, which limits tariffs to 15% for European cars sold in the USA.

The European Commissioner for Trade, Maros Sefcovic, was to meet with the White House trade representative, Jamieson Greer, in the context of a G7 ministerial meeting. The European Commission reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the agreement, rejecting American accusations. Additionally, the European Parliament approved the agreement with conditions, but negotiation with member states is necessary before implementation. The spokesperson for the EC mentioned that the EU has consistently informed Washington about the progress made.
