The environmental movement blocked the Rhine-Main-Danube canal with a placard drawing attention to the catastrophic consequences of fossil fuel exploitation. The Karlsruhe refinery, which processes 16 million tons of oil a year, is owned by Shell, Esso and Rosneft. The action comes as another activist group blocked access to the Scholven coal-fired power plant in western Germany.
