Two drones coming from Russia crashed in Latvia, one hitting a oil storage facility. Authorities issued alerts for residents near the border.

The Latvian army announced on Thursday morning that two drones coming from Russia had penetrated the airspace of Latvia, a NATO member state, and crashed on the territory of the country.

One of the drones hit a oil storage facility in Rezekne, located about 40 km from the border with Russia, causing a fire that was extinguished before the firefighters arrived. Following the incident, Latvian authorities issued alerts for residents in the border area, asking them to stay indoors. All schools in Rezekne were closed as a precautionary measure.

This incident comes after, at the end of March, several Ukrainian drones struck Latvia and its NATO neighbors, Estonia and Lithuania. The foreign ministers of the Baltic countries emphasized that they do not allow the use of their territories for drone attacks against Russia.
