At least 51 people were killed and 20 injured in an explosion at a coal mine in eastern Iran.

The Iranian authorities have announced that the death toll from the explosion has risen to more than 50, with several people missing and injured. A methane leak apparently triggered the explosion and search and rescue operations are underway to find the 24 miners trapped inside the mine.
