Donald Trump has decided to grant clemency to British billionaire Joe Lewis, former owner of the Tottenham Hotspur football club, according to a statement from a White House official. Lewis, at the age of 88, requested clemency in order to receive medical treatment and to visit his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the United States. In 2024, Lewis pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit securities fraud and fled from prison, settling in the Bahamas. He accepted extradition to the U.S. and paid a $5 million fine. His fortune is estimated at $6.8 billion, and he was previously known as a successful currency speculator. Lewis held a majority stake in Tottenham since 2001 but relinquished control of the club in 2022, transferring his share to a family trust.
