On May 8, American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first American pope. President Donald Trump congratulated the election, calling it a great honor for the country. The moment was marked by the tradition of white smoke and the cry "Habemus Papam" in front of more than 50,000 pilgrims. Prevost's election symbolizes an openness to a global vision and modernization of the Church in the face of contemporary challenges.
