A complex telecommunications network, consisting of over 300 servers and 100,000 SIM cards, was neutralized by the U.S. Secret Service to prevent threats to telecommunications in New York, in the context of the UN General Assembly. The devices could allow for anonymous calls and attacks on mobile phone networks. Preliminary investigations suggest links to state actors that pose risks to national security.
