A devastating fire broke out in several high-rise buildings in Hong Kong, causing the death of at least 146 people, according to a statement made by the police at a press conference. Authorities warned that the number of victims could rise, considering that 150 people are still missing, and 79 are injured. The fire occurred on Wednesday in the Tai Po district, where seven of the eight residential blocks were quickly engulfed in flames. Accusations that the fire was amplified by flammable materials on the exterior of the buildings have sparked anger and concern among the population. On Sunday, thousands of people gathered at the Wang Fuk Court complex to mourn their victims, forming queues of nearly 2 km.
