On Wednesday morning, a devastating fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata, India, resulting in the death of at least nine people, including a child. The incident occurred around 2:50 AM (local time), on the second floor of the building, and firefighters managed to control the flames within an hour.
According to local police, the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, although the exact cause has not yet been determined. Approximately 30 people were evacuated safely, but at least six individuals required medical attention. According to reports, the deceased victims were citizens of Bangladesh who had come to Kolkata for medical treatment.
The hotel, located in a busy area of the city, is known for its affordable accommodation rates and restaurants. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the fire.
