A gas explosion occurred on Friday evening at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County, Shanxi Province, China, resulting in the death of eight workers and leaving 38 people trapped underground.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered large-scale rescue efforts, emphasizing the need to spare no effort in treating the injured and conducting search operations. According to the Xinhua news agency, carbon monoxide levels have exceeded acceptable limits in the mine, and the trapped individuals are in critical condition.

By Saturday morning, 201 workers had been brought to the surface, including the eight victims. Local authorities are investigating the causes of the accident, and safety in Chinese mines remains a concern, despite improvements in recent decades.
