The deputy governor of the Kursk region, Vladimir Bazarov, has been detained for embezzling 1 billion roubles earmarked for defensive fortifications, according to TASS.

Vladimir Bazarov, vice-governor of the Kursk region, has been arrested in a corruption case related to the embezzlement of 1 billion rubles, equivalent to 12.4 million dollars, intended for defensive fortifications. The searches took place at his office and the arrest was confirmed by the region's governor. It comes amid a series of investigations into corruption among Russian officials after the Ukrainian military incursion into Kursk.
