Irina Podnosova, President of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, has died at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer.

Irina Podnosova has died in Moscow, the first woman to head Russia's Supreme Court, a post she held from April 2024. She graduated from law school in 1975, the same year as Vladimir Putin, and was considered influential in the judiciary. Her death was described as a "huge loss for the Fatherland" by the Investigative Committee. Yuri Ivanenko was appointed acting president of the court.
