Deadly explosion in the mine in China: 82 dead and 9 missing

A devastating gas explosion occurred on Friday evening at 7:30 PM in the Liushenyu coal mine in Shanxi province, China, resulting in the deaths of 82 workers, according to reports from CNN and the state news agency Xinhua.

At the time of the incident, 247 workers were underground, and by Saturday morning, 201 of them had been evacuated. Authorities have confirmed that nine people are still missing, and carbon monoxide levels in the affected mine have exceeded legal limits.

President Xi Jinping has called for a full mobilization for the rescue of the victims and a detailed investigation to determine the causes and responsibilities of the accident. Although China has made progress in reducing its dependence on fossil fuels, coal remains a primary energy source, and Shanxi province is a major mining center with a history of serious incidents.
