The non-profit organization HateAid has filed a criminal complaint against Meta's smart glasses, claiming that these devices violate German privacy legislation.

The complaint highlights concerns about filming individuals without their consent, as well as recording intimate images without the subjects' knowledge.

HateAid believes that the sale of these glasses constitutes a crime, considering that they allow users to film secretly. The complaint has been filed against Meta, Ray-Ban, and Oakley, as well as the retailers.

In response, a spokesperson for Meta stated that the glasses have been approved by the German regulatory authority BNetzA and include privacy protection measures.

HateAid demands that the glasses be clearly identified and that there be restrictions on recording in certain spaces.

European regulatory authorities have commissioned a report on these devices, which will be completed this summer.
