The cases of hantavirus detected on the cruise ship MV Hondius have generated an intense reaction in conspiracy circles, linking this incident to a new global crisis.

Although the World Health Organization (WHO) states that there is no connection to the Covid-19 pandemic, conspiracy theorists, such as Alex Jones, claim that a new "plandemic" is being prepared. They argue that the hantavirus is part of a conspiracy aimed at enforcing vaccination or isolating the population before the U.S. legislative elections.

Yotam Ophir, a disinformation expert, emphasizes that these theories persist and spread rapidly online, fueled by the anti-vaccine movement. Despite the fact that there is no vaccine or remedy for hantavirus, political figures and nonconformist doctors promote the use of ivermectin, a parasitic medication, as a solution, even though it is not effective against infections.

Disinformation continues to affect public perception of health and vaccination.
