The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that six cases of hantavirus have been confirmed on a cruise ship, out of the eight suspected cases reported. As of May 8, the fatality rate was 38%, with three recorded deaths. All confirmed cases are caused by the Andes virus, which is transmitted between people.

Authorities in Argentina have assessed that the possibility of patient zero, a Dutch passenger of the MV Hondius, being infected in Ushuaia, where he stayed for 48 hours before boarding, is "practically null." Juan Petrina, a health official from the province of Tierra del Fuego, emphasized that there is no evidence to support the hypothesis of contamination through a visit to a waste disposal site in Ushuaia, considering it a rumor.
