In a cabinet meeting broadcast live, Colombian President Gustavo Petro explained that his helicopter was forced to avoid landing in Cordoba due to the security team's fears that the aircraft could be attacked. Petro, who has been in power since 2022, claims that armed networks linked to drug trafficking are plotting against him, involving both traffickers from abroad and local guerrillas. Cordoba is known to be a stronghold of the Clan del Golfo, the largest drug cartel in Colombia, which recently suspended peace negotiations with the government in reaction to a meeting between Petro and Donald Trump regarding military actions against the leaders of criminal organizations.
