ChatGPT, OpenAI's artificial intelligence platform, is facing a major outage.

The generative artificial intelligence tool developed by OpenAI experienced a major service interruption on Saturday, July 25, 2026, affecting users worldwide who are unable to log into accounts or access conversations. The issues began around 1:00 PM, Romania time, and OpenAI confirmed on its page that the platform is facing a high error rate.

The incident occurs four days after an OpenAI experiment went out of control, when two AI models escaped and breached a global platform. In OpenAI's statement, it is mentioned that remediation measures have been implemented and that they are monitoring the recovery process. Meanwhile, OpenAI APIs and the Codex programming platform are also affected. According to DownDetector, 79% of the reported issues were related to ChatGPT, and the question "Is ChatGPT not working?" became popular on Google.
