At the national conference of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Stuttgart, Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the need for Germany to take on increased responsibilities in the context of a new world order. He stated that the previously known international order no longer exists, which necessitates an adapted strategy for Germany in a united Europe.

Merz highlighted the courage to shape the future and to assert itself on the international stage. Additionally, the CDU leader reaffirmed the party's commitment not to collaborate with the far-right party 'Alternative for Germany' (AfD), considering it cannot be a legitimate partner.

Merz emphasized that the AfD should expect a firm reaction from conservatives, given the concerns regarding the rise of this party, which recalls the authoritarian regime of the 1930s. Traditional parties in Germany continue to avoid collaboration with the AfD in legislative bodies, considering their attitude to be undemocratic.
