Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that the country will accelerate defense spending growth to meet NATO's target of 2% of GDP in the face of increased threats from hostile states and terrorism. Carney emphasized over-reliance on the US for security and cited challenges from Russia and China. Canada currently allocates 1.4% of GDP to defense.
