The three West African nations, led by military regimes and members of the Alliance of Sahel States, declared that the ICC has become an "instrument of neocolonial repression" and expressed dissatisfaction with its inability to address war crimes and crimes against humanity. The withdrawal will take effect one year after the official submission of the request. In the context of jihadist violence, these countries are seeking to develop internal mechanisms to ensure peace and justice, while moving closer to Russia.
