The President of Bulgaria requests the release of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, invoking his contribution to the release of Bulgarian nurses from Libya.

Rumen Radev, the president of Bulgaria, called on Friday for the release of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, highlighting his commitment to the release of the Bulgarian nurses imprisoned in Libya. Radev appealed to European politicians to support Sarkozy's release, mentioning the considerable efforts he made on behalf of the nurses, who were sentenced to death and spent over eight years in prison. Sarkozy facilitated their repatriation in 2007, accompanied by his then-wife, Cécilia Sarkozy.

Currently, Sarkozy is in prison, having been sentenced to five years for collusion with criminals in connection with a scandal involving the financing of his 2007 campaign. Radev wanted to pay tribute to Sarkozy, who needs the support and recognition of society. A Court of Appeal in Paris is set to examine Sarkozy's release request.
